Marina Antunes [Celluloid 07.11.15] scifi action thriller adventure

There was a palpable disappointment floating around the web when Disney announced that there would be no new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer at SDCC. The panel itself proved to be a success, what with the entire cast on hand and the after-panel concert and all, but what the studio did release is probably just as good if not better than a new trailer.

Star Wars was never my brand of ubber geekness. Yes, at heart I'm more of a Trekkie, but I've liked the trailers for Star Wars so far and have even found myself getting a bit excited at the prospect of a new movie but this behind the scenes video has done more to elevate my level of excitement than anything else I've seen from the project. When we talk about giant summer tentpole movies, this is the kind of project I long for, one that mixes old technology with new to create an immersive experience. VFX is good and all but I must admit the nostalgia factor of real people in real costumes, real locations and practical effects is endlessly appealing.

Expect a new trailer to debut at D23 in August but for now, this is where it's at.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18.
