Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.25.15] Sweden scifi action drama

The never ending quest for eternal life is something which is explored quite a bit in movies though generally, the question is associated with vampires, magic or the supernatural but Origin looks to be tackling the question from the angle of science.

Written and directed by Andreas Climent and André Hedetoft, the story centers on three research students who discover that elements of the influenza virus might have an affect on the aging process, slowing it down and extending life spans. The discovery obviously has some serious repercussions and I don't just mean for the trio who also seem to be dealing with some relationship drama.

Between the title and the lab setting, Origin sparks flashbacks to Mike Cahill's I, Origins (review) and though they are dealing with similar ideas, the similarities seem to end there.

Origin is currently in post production and scheduled to start making the festival rounds in early 2016.
