Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.20.15] zombies comedy

Tye Sheridan has been busy since his debut a few years ago in Terrence Malick's Tree of Life (review), which he followed up with excellent turns in both Mud and Joe. He has a couple of projects coming out in 2015, notably the new The Stanford Prison Experiment and the zombie comedy Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. One of these things is not like the others.

The zombie comedy comes via director Christopher Landon (of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones fame) and stars Sheridan as a member of a lowly scout troupe that find themselves fighting off zombie hoards with the help of a cocktail waitress. It sounds fairly airy and our first look at the trailer cements the movie's approach: there are zombie cats, zombie strippers and zombie boobs.

The concept of marrying a teen sex comedy with zombies doesn't sound particularly great on paper but the trailer suggests this might have just the right balance of cheesy comedy and b-grade horror to satisfy.

We'll find out soon enough. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse opens October 31.

Recommended Release: Shaun of the Dead
