Christopher Webster [Celluloid 09.14.15] action thriller experimental

This first trailer for Ilya Naishuller's insane looking Hardcore makes the bold claim that it's the film of this generation that "will change everything." While that remains to be seen, what we're seeing here is pretty impressive in terms of bringing the notion of a first person movie to life in a potentially exciting way.

Sharlto Copley (District 9, Elysium) stars in the action film presented by Russian Wunderkind Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch) that is having its worldwide premier at the Toronto International Film Festvial.

You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry and congratulations, you’re now a cyborg.

5 minutes later, your wife has been kidnapped and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky), he’s just a psychotic megalomaniac with telekinetic powers, and a never-ending army of mercenaries. You’re also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, Russia and everyone wants you dead. Everyone, except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He might be on your side. Good luck Henry. You’re very much likely to need it.

Based on the popularity of the trailer, which has already been viewed more than 1 million times, I think it's safe to say that even if Hardcore doesn't "change everything" it's certainly capturing people's attention.

I imagine watching that at a IMAX theatre, or better yet a VR headset, would be pretty intense. From the trailer it seems like "Henry" won't say a damn word the entire movie which could also be kind of interesting.
