Marina Antunes [Celluloid 09.04.15] scifi thriller

We've been enthusiastic about the trailers for The Martian for good reason: the movie is looking great.

Based on Andy Weir's novel about an astronaut left for dead on Mars, the movie is adapted by Drew Goddard, directed by Ridley Scott and stars a great group of on-screen talents led by Matt Damon. How accurate the survival story will be remains to be seen but judging by this new bit of marketing for the project, it seems to me that The Martian may well be another intersection of movies and science, much like Gravity and Interstellar.

Narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson, this is a mini-episode of StarTalk, a science show from 2035. In this episode deGrasse explains what the Ares program is, how it works and what the dangers are, at once creating a great bit of viral marketing and great world building for the movie.

The Martian opens October 2.

Recommended Release: Interstellar
