Christopher Webster [Celluloid 10.19.15] horror comedy

Oren Uziel's screenplay for "The Kitchen Sink" made the Black List a few years back, so I'm not shocked to see that his film got made. What I am surprised about is how fucking unfunny this first trailer is and how it might be signaling the end of the horror comedy as we know it.

It's become clear that we've reached a point I'll call post-Cabin in the Woods where every horror sub-genre has been so well lampooned, twisted and commented upon by other films that all that new filmmakers can do is apparently cram everything into one movie and hope the laughs generate themselves. If Freaks of Nature is what we can expect, then I think I'm out for a while.

Synopsis:
In the town of Dillford, humans, vampires and zombies were all living in peace - until the alien apocalypse arrived. Now three teenagers-one human, one vampire, and one zombie-have to team up to figure out how to get rid of the visitors.

Nicholas Braun, Mackenzie Davis, Josh Fadem, Ed Westwick, Vanessa Hudgens, Joan Cusack, Keegan-Michael Key, and Denis Leary star.

Recommended Release: Cabin in the Woods

It's a shame as it seems tohave inspired casting... in the supporting roles. Nicholas Braun is not who iprobably would have chosen as lead. It looks a victim of uninspired direction. maybe if they would have gotten someone more with more assured viual style. instead of someone who looks like they are directing a big budget pilot from a backlot setting. maybe someone like Fede Alvarez from the evil dead remake. So he could make something original inspired or even Rupert Wyatt. I mean after all this was supposed to be Jonah Hill's directing debut. I guess he decided to go more highbrow and with acting.
