Christopher Webster [Celluloid 05.04.16] horror thriller

I'm so down for this one woman shark survival thriller it's not even funny. Blake Lively outsmarting a shark in a surfer's paradise? the concept is so simple, it's perfect. Plus the photography and tone feel intense as hell.

The first trailer that dropped last month gave us but a glimpse of the conflict to come and this second trailer expands the story to show Lively coming - ahem - alive to plan her escape.

Synopsis:
In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy's ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude.

The Shallows is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra who's last films included Liam Neeson starers Non-Stop, Run all Night and Unknown.

The Shallows hits theaters June 29.

Recommended Release: Open Water (1 & 2)
