We have an update on Ridley Scott's Alien Covenant that will no doubt spark some discussion. The most striking images are some set photos that include what look like Pompeii-esque mummified copses and soldiers.

Also included is a behind-the-scenes photo taken of actress Katherine Waterston's character, Daniels. FOX released it on social media.

Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with the ambitious and unique Prometheus, Alien: Covenant is said to connect directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien.

It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant cast members include Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, and Callie Hernandez.

Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Michael Green (Green Lantern) wrote the screenplay.

It hits theatres August 4, 2017.

"Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Michael Green (Green Lantern) wrote the screenplay" is a dreadful thing to read, but I remain optimistic. This can still work!
