Christopher Webster [Celluloid 05.18.16] horror thriller

Cannes critics have a long history of booing films at Cannes. Many of these films end up being either fascinating failures full of ambition and forward thinking ideas, and some of them end up being actually quite stunning. Gallo's Brown Bunny and Ryan Gosling's Lost River come readily to mind but there are many more.

Directed by Olivier Assayas, the internationally-acclaimed director of Clouds of Sils Maria (a film I liked quite a lot), returns to Cannes with a new thriller called Personal Shopper. Word on the street is the film, which reunites him with Kristen Stewart, was booed at the festival and savaged by critics.

The film co-stars Anders Danielsen Lie, Lars Eidinger, Nora von Waldstätten, Pamela Betsy Cooper and Benjamin Biolay.

Synopsis:
A high-fashion personal shopper to the stars who is also a spiritual medium is determined to make contact with her dead twin brother in his French apartment.

Personal Shopper will be released in the US by IFC Films.

It opens in France on October 19.

Recommended Release: Clouds of Sils Maria
