Marina Antunes [Celluloid 07.13.16] horror

I have to admit: when Cary Fukunaga dropped out of directing the new It adaptation and the entire project sort of fell apart, I stopped tracking it as closely as I had been. It's not that I don't like Andres Muschietti's debut feature Mama (for the record, it was a welcome surprise), but the sudden change in production deflated my interest.

Everyone's been wondering just what the new Pennywise would look like and though there have been more than a handful of interpretations online - including one from the director - we now have our official first look at what Bill Skarsgård (of "Hemlock Grove" fame) looks like in the make-up and it's pretty creepy with a clear homage to Tim Curry's version.

The first half of the two-part project isn't due until September 8, 2017 but with all of the clamouring for a first look at the evil clown, it's not surprising the studio controlled the release with an official photo before some poorly shot cell phone image escaped the set.

Thoughts?

He looks like he just did a really terrific trick at a birthday party, but not a single child laughed or clapped.

(Also, the parents turned off most of the lights for some reason.)
