Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.25.16] horror comedy

There's always a fine balance to be achieved when mixing genres successfully and horror comedy is one of those pairings that more often than not ends in failure but sometimes, when the balance is right, you get something that looks kind of like The Fiancé: a ridiculous premise that perfectly lends itself to a bit of schlock and man, it looks like a ton of fun.

Written and directed by Mark Allen Michaels, The Fiancé stars TV personality Carrie Keagan (she of Sharknado 4 and Syfy's DEAD 7) as a vacationing bride to be who is bitten by Bigfott, turning her into a monster who wants to kill everyone including her fiancé, played here by newcomer Dallas Valdez who falls somewhere between a bit player from Tommy Wiseau's The Room and Dieter Laser.

I like that it doesn't take itself too seriously and considering the success of Syfy's ridiculous horror comedies of late, I could totally see this making a splash.

The Fiancé has been picked up by Indiecan Pictures who are planning a major city theatrical run followed by a VOD/DVD release in late 2016.
