Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.11.16] Iran horror thriller

One of the movies which garnered a lot of attention coming out of Sundance was Babak Anvari's Under the Shadow which is being toted by many as one of the best horror movies of the year and if this trailer is any indication, we may be in for a real treat.

Written and directed by Anvari, the movie unfolds in 1988 Iran amidst the war between Iran and Iraq and centers on Shideh, a woman who has been labelled a subversive. She's depressed, stuck at home and her husband has been drafted when a bomb drops into the middle of her house bringing with it a malevolent spirit. Or perhaps its all in her mind. You decide. Either way, it makes for some super creepy stuff.

Under the Shadow opens October 7.
