Marina Antunes [Celluloid 02.24.17] post apocalyptic apocalyptic scifi horror thriller

We had our first promising look at Rod Blackhurst's PA thriller Here Alone last year, shortly after the movie won the Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival.

At the time, the movie didn't have a release date but after a successful festival run, Here Alone is finally getting a theatrical release.

Lucy Walters stars as Ann, a young woman living alone in the wilderness and trying to survive after an unexplained outbreak has turned most of the population into zombies. Her somewhat peaceful survival is put into jeopardy when she encounters and helps a pair of survivors.

Yeah, it's another zombie movie and though I don't expect it to re-invent the wheel, I do like the stories that stay small and focused on the drama with the plague of zombies on the fringes and this certainly seems to fit the bill. Plus, although it's a completely different beast, I really liked Blackhurst's Amanda Knox documentary (it's superbly compelling stuff) and I'm curious to see his fictional offering.

Here Alone opens March 31.
