Marina Antunes [Celluloid 02.28.18] Canada thriller

The Whistler Film Festival always provides a great selection of Canadian film and last year's edition was no exception and among the Canadian content offerings was writer/director Daniel DiMarco's feature film debut Juggernaut (review).

Jack Kesy stars as Saxon, a small town crook who returns home obsessed with the idea that his mother, whose death was deemed a suicide, was actually murdered. He's determined to find out who killed her and take his revenge.

Though he's already appeared in small roles on a number of high profile projects including "The Strain," Baywatch and 12 Strong, Kesy caught my attention on TNT's crime/comedy hybrid "Claws" as Roller Husser, the prodigal son of an eccentric Florida drug king (Dean Norris really giving it his all).

In addition to Kesy, Juggernaut also stars Amanda Crew, Stephen McHattie and David Cubitt.

Kesy has great screen presence which DiMarco uses to full advantage, using his imposing presence to navigate through many a scene with little more than a head nod. The result is a quietly menacing thriller which feels like it's ready to explode at any given moment.

Juggernaut will open theatrically in Toronto on March 9 with a VOD and digital release to follow on March 27.
