John Connor [Celluloid 12.22.21] action thriller adventure



The trailer for Robert Eggers' The Northman is out and the historical revenge drama looks pretty amazing.

In the film, Alexander Skarsgard is "The Northman" and the film is an epic revenge thriller that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father.

The movie sees release April 22, 2022, and here are five films you can watch in the meantime to get amped for the primeval, primordial and primitive storytelling to come.


1. Valhalla Rising



Acclaimed Danish director Nicholas Winding Refn follows his worldwide smash Pusher trilogy and the widely praised Bronson with his most daring film yet.

Valhalla Rising is a brutally beautiful Viking film with international star Mads Mikkelsen (“Casino Royale,” “Clash Of The Titans”) as One Eye, a chained prisoner forced to fight to the death for the entertainment of his captors.

When One Eye escapes, he stumbles upon a group of warriors headed to the Crusades. But fate has something else in store, as the men drift into the New World, where savages stalk them one by one in increasingly violent ways.

Is One Eye an avenging angel or just the guiltiest of them all? The answers can be found in this ruthless, hallucinatory, one of a kind journey.


2. Centurion



A splinter group of Roman soldiers fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is devastated in a guerrilla attack.



3. Pathfinder



A Viking boy, nicknamed Ghost (Karl Urban), is adopted by the Wampanoag tribe after surviving a shipwreck despite a legend that death and destruction will follow the boy wherever he travels.

Over the course of a decade, the young Norseman grows into a fierce warrior and battles against rampaging Vikings who slaughter the tribes. He defends the woman he loves (Moon Bloodgood) by waging a one-man war against his countrymen and becomes the savior and defender of the Wampanoag people.


4. VIKING



Epic Russian actioner from director Andrey Kravchuk.

Kievan Rus, late 10th century. After the death of his father, the young Viking prince Vladimir of Novgorod is forced into exile across the frozen sea.


5. Wolfhound



Import Blu-ray/Region A pressing. The last remaining member of a slaughtered tribe pursues vengeance against all odds for his family's murder. When he discovers his target is a brutal, Sauron-like tyrant, his personal quest grows into an all-out war to rescue a nation and exact revenge.
