runs for around six minutes...
NorthParkes Mine. Parkes, Central West, New South Wales. Australia

looks like you could squeeze a few survivors in there... any trouble from the Jocks.... straight in the crusher

Seems like the Jocks wont be starved out, if they are hanging out in an area with supplies (what is the situation with the supplies in the Jocks control.. are they wasting them? will that trigger a confrontation?).... water wont be a problem either I guess, given the multiple cooling systems.. what of power though, are both generators in the same location?

whoever controls the power has the colonies life (and thier own of course) in thier hands..

What kind of punishment faces the losers in the coming war? death? expulsion to the "cool zone" just outside the gate?

I am guessing the expansion downstairs, is not progressing with the current "trouble"... whats happening down there I wonder....

Are other colonies facing similar situations (IE murder/thuggery) .. dont think that would happen on a Sub..

Arent Ore Crushers just the coolest things on the planet? Top 10 coolest anyway. 10,000 TEU container ships are neat too, and nukes.

E48 has 13 km of tunnel (probably a bit more by now) and the E26 just next door to it is probably about the same or larger.
Assume 1 person per meter in what I consider a "dense pack" shelter, remember you need about a ton of food per person to last 2 or 3 years, that takes up a good amount of room. Mines are a bit wider than tunnels, so you have a bit more space. In an industrial tunnel, with steam pipes and wiring etc, you are pretty much sitting on top of your food, with just enough room for an aisle down the middle so people can walk around. Tunnels are cleaner, dryer, nicer and better lit tho, since mines are pretty much bare rock walls with seepage areas. You saw how dark the copper mine looked away from the face they were working. Keep those flourescents lit dammit!

1000 person shelters are pretty much optimal. More people mean more problems, and it takes a lot longer to load supplies into the larger ones, that leaves less time to work on systems. Industrial tunnels have multiple entrances generally, mines usually have 1 or 2. Factories are usually closer to the city they ransack for supplies too.

You'll get to see the outcome of Tunnel 3s problems soon.
then Im gonna move on to Year 2, which I think is going to be one of the kids diary/log, either 667s or Stan the red haired welder.

And as a bonus..

would anyone be intrested in a story Im calling "Unthinkable" which is obviously about a nuclear war? Been researching it for 2 days, and its giving me the willies.

I hope you'll be as surprised as I at just how safe you are. ;) ;)

3 days of research! Re-learned a lotta stuff I'd forgotten, and a few new tidbits. Didnt know that people can be killed by a phenomena called "popcorning". If you shelter in a subway, blast overpressure can blow tiny particles of sand deep enough into your skin that you become covered in welts. I'd like to know how exactly they discovered that.

Glad the E48 bit came in useful...

Captain might have to reconsider weapons.. if the bad guys are arming themselves...

Things are hotting up (sorry :) )... I was just thinking about the generators, and their fuel supply.....

A nerdy type braniac might consider the use of Carbon Monoxide as a defensive weapon... jocks cant hurt you, if they are unconscious.. guessing the same creative genius types might easily construct "screamers" like those used on commercial ships in pirate territory..

also the constant influx of used cooling water into the lower region of the tunnels might "dampen" revolutionary spirits (again pardon the pun)..

I suppose, that if things got bad enough, a physics major (more likely to be a Star Trek fan, than a Football player... my nice way of saying, Nerd).. could whip up some Mustard gas in a jiffy... would kinda be one of those last resort things though.

I wonder if the pen will be mightier than the sword?

Im writing the Climax today. You'll like it. Then the close-up for Year One this weekend.
Then I'll write the 1st episode of Year Two and quit.

Gotta focus more on making movies. (and finishing Unthinkable, which is still creeping me out, - Christ what an Imagination I have)

There.
Thrilling Climax submitted for your approval.
Lemmee know if it lacks anything. And especially lemmee know if you liked it. I just am crazy about approval.
One more follow-up entry in the Log, to tidy up the loose ends. As they say in the movies "Everybody cries when the Monkey Dies." so dont drag it out much after the climax. Like they did in Lord of the Rings.

If I start Year Two it'll just be a teaser. haha!! Suffer, Bitches.
