Hello is anybody there?

Postby wa5 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 7:23 am

Hi my name is Trevor. From Port Stephens (Near Newcastle, NSW,) Australia.
My introduction to PA was the BBC TV series. The Survivors... I thought that it was a great show. and also John Wyndhams' great book ... The Day of the Triffids.. this book (and subsequent movie from 1962 is interesting but not true to the book.. and the BBC series made in the Eighties far truer to the original) is something I would urge everyone interested in this subject to read. Quite a few of Whyndhams books focused on PA. Funny that I have not read a lot about him on this forum.

I also enjoyed Stephen Kings "The Stand" and his Dark Tower series (Not Strictly PA.... in this world anyway)

Seeya.

Hey Trevor.. glad you joined, if you love PA this is the right place. I have a filmmaker friend out in Oz who did a somewhat short PA film called Lost: Black Earth a few years back, he'll be directing a new film starting sometime this year (but not PA). Btw, Survivors is getting a remake, the BBC already bought the rights from the Terry Nation estate! I've seen the first 2 seasons of the orig, your right, it's awesome.

The news on the survivors remake is how I found this site :)

I live near one of the locations for Mad Max 3 Beyond Thunder dome... The sand hills where the plane wreck scene was filmed are about two miles from my home...

I also recently joined QuietEarth. I recently read Stephen King's novel, Cell. That is what led me to this site. As a result of reading Cell, I did an internet search on PA and found this site. I joined right away. A lot of cool stuff can be found here!!

Hi .. If you liked Cell as much as I did. you may also like "The Stand... (the complete and uncut edition) " by the same author.. it is also PA , but is mainly a battle between good and evil. its is a very good read and not a bad tv series too.... M O O N , that spells good :) (you'll get it when you read the book)

also you might consider the "Dark Tower" series ... you could kind of call them PA in paralel universe.... sort of. They are also by Stephen King.

The Signal isn't based on Cell, in fact I *think* (I'm not sure) it predates Cell in concept. Regardless, they are 2 seperate entities and The Signal is really really good. We did a review if you missed it.

My "thinking" (and I use the term loosely) was, that in a PA world, I would be calling to an empty world....mostly....
yep cheesy, I know. :D
